Today more and more attention is being given to technology as a new literacy and how it might be incorporated in the English language arts classroom. In this On Demand Web seminar the presenters share their work in visual and critical literacy and how they have supported teachers in rethinking literacy and in exploring new possibilities for the English language arts classroom. Specifically they share the work they have have done with elementary students in critiquing advertisements, developing public service announcements, creating classroom podcasts and other such projects.
Peggy Albers is an associate professor in the Language and Literacy unit of the Middle and Secondary Education and Instructional Technology Department at Georgia State University, Atlanta.
Jerome C. Harste is professor emeritus of language education at Indiana University.
Vivian M. Vasquez is an associate professor in the School of Education, Teaching, and health at American University in Washington, DC.
